Surya joined New SADLE in 1999 when he was referred about this place by some of his friends while being treated at Anandaban Hospital. He had come to Kathmandu for treatment along with his elder brother from his birthplace Morang.
Earlier, he used to drive a rickshaw for living but became unable to do so once infected with leprosy at the age of 25. Right now, his fingers are claw and can hardly perform any heavy physical work. However, he is thankful that he got employed at New SADLE and currently working at its Bags Section.
He is married to Rekha Dhimal who also works at Batik Section at New SADLE and has a daughter from her who also got married recently. He feels glad to work at New SADLE and wishes to continue working here till he is capable.
